Cataract is the opacification of lens due to natural ageing process. It is one of the most common cause of preventable blindness in old individuals. In cataract surgery the normal lens is removed and replaced with a artificial lens to restore your clear vision.
Previously cataract surgery demands a large incision with suture which leads to slow visual recovery . We perform Phaco emulsification being a sutureless technique and brings down the incision size to 2.8mm leading to immediate visual recovery. The surgery is done under Topical Anasthesia without any local injections.
We are equipped with speciality microscopes and well experienced surgeons to give best eye care to the patients.
We are equipped with, Zeiss IOL master to calculate accurate intraocular lens power. Specular Microscopy and corneal Topography are also available to determine appropriate surgical options.
Different types of IOL’S
Different type of IOL’S have been used in our hospital for correcting near and far vision and Astigmatism.
The following Lenses are used :
1. Monofocal Lens (Rigid and foldable for correcting distant vision)
2. Toric Lens (for correcting Astigmatism)
3. Multifocal IOL’S (for correcting both distant and near vision )
4. Other premium IOL’S are also available for the patient to choose.
We perform around 400 cataract surgeries per month and this procedure has success rate of 98% . We also perform secondary IOL’S like Iris claw lens and Scleral Fixation lens.
It is a group of eye disorders that cause damage to the optic nerve that carries information from Eye to brain due to high Introcular pressure. It is a second most common cause of blindness affecting 60 million people globally. In India it affects 11 million people of which 1.5 million people are blind.
It is more common among the patients with the high myopia , Diabetes,Family history of glaucoma ,high blood pressure and use of steroids. Though there is no cure for the condition we provide best care to screen at a early stage ,which can preserve remaining visions and enable patients to live a productive life. Life long monitoring of glaucoma is essential ,the frequency of follow up visits depends on individual case.
We are equipped with Non Contacts Tonometry machine, Pachymetry,Optic Disc Photography to record the advancements of disease and ND-Yag Laser. Latest Investigations like the OCT and Humphrey’s perimeter are also available. We perform around 50 Trabaculectomy procedures for uncontrolled high intraocular pressure. Our clinic also serves as a large referrel center for the treatment of congential glaucoma,a rare condition with increased eye pressure and corneal enlargement occurring in the first few months of birth
It is a photo sensitive nervous layer that converts images to electrical signals and sends information to the brain via optic nerve. Diseases of the retina, the vitreous, and the optic nerve can cause serious vision problems. Fortunately, most of them can now be managed satisfactorily with modern methods of diagnosis and treatment. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are the keys to healthy eyes.
We are equipped with FFA, OCT ,Ultrasonography . Laser procedure are also extensively done in our retina clinic. We perform many surgeries like PPV,Macular hole surgery, Retinal Detachment surgery and also intravitreal injections.
It is a very delicate operation performed with an operating microscope and special needle-sized instruments. The most common indication for this operation is removal of the vitreous, which has lost its transparency and has become an obstacle to the incoming light. In this surgery most of the non-transparent vitreous is removed and replaced with a clear solution.
This operation is used for Retinal detachment surgery and also to remove blood clots, infectious material, cataract, foreign bodies, and abnormal membranes from the interior of the eyeball. Sometimes it is done for diagnostic purposes for diseases of unknown origin. Occasionally it may be necessary to inject air, gas, or silicone oil into the eye after removing the vitreous gel.
Cornea is a transparent structure in front of eye that covers Iris, pupil and Anterior chamber. It contributes 2/3 of eyes total optical power.
Diseases affecting the cornea are a major cause of blindness all over the world. A range of infectious and inflammatory eye conditions ultimately affect the transparency of the cornea and cause corneal blindness. They add a substantial burden to the community in general and healthcare resources in particular all over the world. Furthermore, individuals with corneal blindness are usually of a younger age group compared with those suffering from cataract. Hence, in terms of total blind years, the impact of corneal blindness is even greater.
In India, there are approximately 6.8 million people who have corneal blindness with vision less than 6/60 in at least one eye and, of these, about 1 million have bilateral corneal blindness. If the present trend continues, it is estimated that the number of corneally blind individuals in India will increase to 10.6 million by 2020.
Arasan Eye Hospital established the cornea clinic with the latest infrastructure. Corneal diseases are diagnosed by experienced ophthalmologists. Arasan Eye Hospital runs its own eye bank – Arasan Eye Bank, with an annual donation of 1,000 eyes.
1. Penetrating Keratoplasty,
2. Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty
3. Descemet stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty
4. Therapautic Keratoplasty
5. Collagen Cross Linking
Orbit and Oculoplasty sub-specialty deals with diseases of lacrimal system, lids, and orbit disorders, tumors in and around the eye.
The orbit clinic receives number of referrals of cases of common and uncommon orbital tumors, orbital inflammations and infections which are managed conservatively with medical management, chemotherapy, and surgically with the removal of the tumor via orbitotomy.
A large number of patients with thyroid-related orbitopathy are treated (in collaboration with the general physician) on a daily basis.
Nasolacrimal duct obstructions, both congenital and acquired, are routinely treated by us with probing, external/ endonasal dacryocysto rhinostomy. A number of patients are seen in the Oculoplasty clinic daily with a variety of eyelid disorders including malpositions (Ptosis, entropion, ectropion), benign and malignant eyelid tumors, facial dystonias etc.
Surgical corrections for ptosis, entropion, ectropion, eyelid reconstructions, post tumor removal, as well as number of cosmetic eyelid surgeries (e.g. Blepharoplasty) and injection of botulinum toxin (Botox) for facial dystonias and cosmetic indications are performed.
Paediatric Ophthalmology Clinic is dedicated to the development of special techniques for examining and treating children’s eye diseases. The most common childhood eye diseases treated in this clinic are refractive errors, strabismus, amblyopia, congenital cataract, genetic eye diseases, and congenital glaucoma. Jointly with the retina services, it conducts screening and offers treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP).
Children experience a variety of eye problems, many quite distinct from adult eye diseases. They usually don’t complain of defective vision.
1. Poor Performance at School
2. Watching Tv at close quarters
3. Squinting or blinking eyes frequently
4. Complaining of headache
5. Squeezing of eyes when looking at distance objects.
We perform Congenital Cataract and Squint Surgeries by a well experienced surgeons.
The Ocular morbidity and burden of Ocular Trauma are enormous. It is one of the most under recognized cause of vision loss in the developing world. Visionloss can occur due to Injury right from the cornea to retina or the entire globe. It is only one hospital in Erode which provides 24 hours emergency Eye care. Primary and
Secondary repair procedures will be done depending on individual case. Ocular trauma repair has also been done for children and young individuals.
