Community outreach programs are organized through the Save Sight Foundation (SSF), a unit of Arasan Eye Hospital.

SSF is a non-profit organization which conducts all community and training programs. It was founded in 1999 as a non-profit organization and is registered under India Trust Act as a 12A foundation under the Income Tax Act.

SSF conducts a variety of comprehensive eye screening camps including

  • Cataract screening camps
  • Workplace – based screening camps
  • Diabetic retinopathy screening camps
  • School children screening camps

SSF conducts community outreach campaigns in rural areas where the need is high. So far about 4,500 eye camps have been organized at which close to 100,000 needy people regainead their vision through cataract surgeries.

These camps also serve to educate the local community on eye care. Some of the camps are conducted in partnership with individual or voluntary social service organization such as Lions, Rotary, religious groups, industries, trusts, banks, hospitals, community based NGOs, recreation and welfare clubs, and village presidents. Those interested in community welfare may sponsor an eye camp and partner with us.

SSF is authorized by the District Blindness Control Society (DBCS) to conduct eye screening camps in five districts of Tamil Nadu Viz., Erode, Tirupur, Salem, Namakkal, Karur and Dindigul.

Since its inception in 1999, SSF has conducted 4,500 eye screening camps have been held. Through the eye camps more than 4 Lakh patients have been screened and about 100,000 sight restoring cataract surgeries have been performed for the needy.

A well-equipped clinical team made up of ophthalmologists and paramedicals visit each camp to screen patients in rural areas. SSF works closely with local support groups, obtaining the required permissions nd the village panchayat chiefs to organize the camps in school buildings or community halls.
